⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Tatsuya Suou
Age: 18 years old
Canon: Persona 2
Canon Point: End of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment

Background: Wiki link!

Personality:
Tatsuya comes across as many to be a cool, aloof type of guy— the kind of person many of his classmates can admire. The truth of it is more along the lines of him being an awkward, shy loner who is deeply uncomfortable around people with strong personalities. He isn't trying to come across as being a brooding bad boy, he just has a bad habit of acting stoic and keeping people at arm's length due to repressed trauma from his past, making him fear abandonment and adding to his reasons to keep others away. He avoids Lisa's affections, is intimidated by his homeroom teacher's ability to see through him to his issues and confront him about them, and resents the older brother who has all but raised him.

But underneath the issues is a person who cares deeply for those he lets close. The bonds of friendship that re-form with Eikichi, Lisa, Maya, and Jun are more precious to him than all the treasure in the world. He even extends this caring towards others, going to rescue a student he barely knows just on the word she's been kidnapped. He wants to be the kind of person who can express themself and encourage others to do the same and to realize their dreams. But he doesn't know how to achieve that dream, doesn't even know what he wants to do with his life. He spends most of his free time on his bike and on mechanic work, a means of escape while he yearns for more. Because of how often he's seen performing his maintenance, rumours from his school eventually give him the ability to flawlessly pilot any vehicle. When it comes to school performance, he's got the potential to be a good student, but he's not a particularly studious one. His favourite classes are English and Physical Education, and he is noted to attend school but skips lectures.

The friend he is closest to is Jun, to the point where they were repeatedly likened to each other as children and as teenagers. They each carry a memento of each other— in Tatsuya's case, he holds a lighter given by Jun with a quote from The Little Prince engraved on it. The lighter was such an important gift that even after he's repressed the memory he still constantly holds onto it, idly flicking it open and closed whenever he's otherwise still. The two are so close that he's one of Tatsuya's three options for a romantic interest (the other two being Lisa and Maya).

None of this is to say that Tatsuya is all gloom and issues. He has his less serious aspects. One of his hobbies is impressions— of machines, not people. One of the ways he tries to make contact with demons and perhaps avoid a fight (because not all demons automatically want to fight) is by making impressions of fighter jets, motorcycles, construction... When Eikichi mischeviously nicknames Lisa "Ginko" (to her annoyance), Tatsuya immediately follows along— even the game's AI switches to calling her Ginko accordingly. Along with Jun, Tatsuya joins Eikichi's band later on in their adventures.

Though the end of Innocent Sin had seen Tatsuya start to open up with his friends, retaining his memories while the others did not has closed him down even harder than before. He's afraid to reach out, taking the weight of the entire world on his shoulders and desperately struggling to go on without any help. When the world will revert to an apocalyptic hellscape if your friends remember the truth, it makes it hard to want any help. The same Tatsuya as before is still under there, but he's weighed down by the guilt of the realization of the consequences of his sin of remembering. By the end of Eternal Punishment, he still has that guilt and desperate loneliness, but he knows that he has to go to back to save this world— and has decided to look forward with his life, vowing to make the best of the world he's left with. And maybe one day, he can meet everyone again one day in the Collective Unconsciousness.

Abilities:
Persona: Tatsuya's main strength is the power of Persona— a mask used to face the world, summoning the gods and demons within. It's a power that can be given physical form, summoned to aide in battle. Additionally, the Persona users of Persona 2 can sense the Personas of others. Tatsuya's primary Arcana is the Sun, though he also holds a strong affinity for the World, the Suit of Cups, and the Suit of Swords. He will have the following Persona with him—

Main Persona: His main Persona is Apollo, the Greek god of the arts, though he later became associated with the sun as well. He manifests for Tatsuya as a gentleman clad in red-and-white with a flame-like mask. He's got elemental affinities to both fire and nuclear spells, and can nullify those types of magic (as well as Holy, Nerve, and Mind damage). His weaknesses are to Water and Ice magics.

Secondary Personas: In addition to Apollo, Tatsuya will also have Lucifer, Shokuin, Nanna, and Verdandi.

Physical Combat: Through the power of Persona, Tatsuya has also gained a weapons proficiency— in his case, he's become a master swordsman. Aside from that, he's also pretty good with his fists, even if it didn't come up quite as often in combat— he got into enough fights in middle and high school that he understands The Ways Of Punching pretty well.

Alignment: Peromei! He's coming from a point in his life where he's run the gamut of emotions— Chief amoungst them, overwhelming despair (feeling himself soley responsible for the entire weight of the world on his shoulders, the only one remembers the past world and that in and of itself being the reason for the possible destruction of the new one) and a tenative, blooming hope (Maya reaching out to him to help, saving the world with Maya, his brother, and the other adults). With Eikichi and Jun already in Empathias— and remembering everything— it'll give him enough Despair and Hope all at once to more than justify this alignment. It's possible he will shift as he becomes more used to his surroundings, but for now, that's what it is.
